Dionne Stevens237 days agoI have a special place in my heart for Sportswest Athletic Club. The owner takes such great care of the facilities, always upgrading & hiring nice people who do the same. The atmosphere is better than that of most gyms I've been a member of. I like to be left alone when I work out & at Sportswest there is ample space to do your thing without getting stepped on or harassed. They also offer great classes & have a super nice pool, spa & steam room. Honestly, even the showers are kept clean. It's really the best!Posted on Google

The gym is super clean, the equipment is well maintained, and when my kids were younger they loved the kids club. There are tons of group classes, so it never gets boring. Bear Hollis269 days agoLove the gym. Been a member for 12 years off and on. Love the hours, 24 is great. Steam and sauna are the bonus. Not always in service but nothing is perfect. When one is out, use the other. Staff is friendly. Always clean and comfortable. No issue with facility and staff, all great. If I have issues it with members of do not rack weights, leave dirty towels out for others to clean, park bench sit on one piece of equipment for 20 minutes. Love Sports West. Although there are a few changes, it’s still the same club I can count on for me to do my complete workouts….and one of the few places that have a racquetball court and a steam room. I love the full body 'Hoist' equipment! In addition to the juice bar, and free coffee for members and guests, the awesome and attentive staff take care of the members. Facilities include multiple weight rooms, plenty of cardio equipment, a wonderful swimming pool and coed Spa, a racquetball court, Child Care area and a full service Spa. I’ve been able to get access to the lanes pretty reliably, the temperature of the water is usually a reasonable balance for hard aerobic swimming and for anyone doing light/easy swimming. The Kids Club has been a game changer; my kids love it, and knowing they’re happy and cared for gives me the freedom to focus on my workouts. There are so many great classes to choose from — I especially enjoy the ones in the infrared room, and the Pilates classes have been amazing too. This past winter, I used the sauna regularly, and it made a big difference during the colder months. Highly recommend Sports West! The pool is nice and if you’re flexible there is always a time where a lane is available. n3wt1n4t0r425 days agoI love gym. My only complaints and this has nothing to do with gym is customers sitting in equipment to surf their phone and people not putting equipment away late at night. I say this isn’t the gym’s fault cause there’s only one staff member so they can’t be expected to pick up after rude customers, but during the day when I’ve gone and there’s more staff theses issues don’t seem to happen so it’s a customer issue not a gym issue hence 5 starsPosted on Google

The wonderful people who watch my kid, especially Harmonie are amazing and my daughter looks forward to going everyday. The gym is great and has every type of equipment you could want or need. Nikki461 days agoSPORTS WEST AT RENO NEVADA ATHLETIC CLUB AND SPA I tried this place out yesterday, and I really liked it. Some of the things that stood out were the indoor pool/ jacuzzi, the constant cleaning of the ladies' locker room, and the overall vibe in the weight room/cardio areas. The pool and jacuzzi area had no kids splashing around, and it was in side away from the sun. There are 4 lanes to swim laps (2 are open, and the other 2 are for reservations only). I hate swimming in pools where they have snot floating around from swimmers blowing it out of their noses. I know it's natural, but it really grosses me out. This pool is small enough that the filters are able to keep it from floating snot. I would definitely choose this gym as a place to swim. I was really impressed with the locker room attendants who make sure the steam room, sauna, showers, floors, and seating areas are constantly being checked, cleaned, and sanitized. The front counter manager was so nice, serious, but not too strict about anything. Just very friendly and professional while being easy to talk to. They have a children's center away from the rest of the gym, so you won't even notice kids being there, which I like. I really loved the relaxing environment for adults only. I would recommend this place for people who practice yoga, too. I took a class and it was so chill.Posted on Google

I can tell she cares and has my best interests at heart. If I'm in pain or need to take things slow, she is always so understanding!! I feel like I get a good workout and get stronger every day with Sandi. Sports West is never too crowded and people are always willing to share machines. I have made several friends around my age (78yo) at Sportswest and love that we can socialize and workout together and never feel pressure to hurry up or get off a machine. Rene Rivero1039 days agoGym has come a long way from when I first joined about 3-4 years ago. I used to think it was small gym but they have many amenities like sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, pool, adjacent full on spa and even a barbershop! Primarily I just use the gym but with that being said equipment is adequately replaced when they are out of commission, and I really appreciate that once in awhile new things are added, layouts change to enhance space, and they actually go through minor construction periods to improve the gyms appearance and quality e.g. resealing shower room floors, replacing fixtures, adding lights for a better relaxing ambience. I’ve been to many gyms in Reno and this one takes the cake but most of all I love that my kiddos are safe, welcomed, and cared for at the kids club. They change diapers, actually have a handle on the kids in there, and even let you call ahead to avoid waiting or being turned away! (Yes I’ve had this happen at other gyms, ridiculous.) I wanted to go hiking in Tahoe but wanted to shower and rest before my flight home-- this place was perfect. For $22 (July 2022 price), I was able to get a day guest pass, which came with fresh, clean towels. I used the shower facilities and rested for a bit in the spacious Lockeroom. They even had some hairdryers in there. They were open late and this was only about 10 minutes from the airport-- so after the shower I still had time to grab something to eat (try the Thai place in the same shopping center!), and was at the airport in plenty of time. The one comment here-(and the reason for 4.5 stars)-the decor is very outdated - I felt like I came in to shower but went into a time warp!Posted on Google

I tried a few other gyms around Reno, but they just weren't my vibe. Sports West immediately felt different. It actually reminds me of the gym I used to go to in Tahoe, which made it feel familiar and comfortable pretty quickly. Another thing that really stands out is how clean the facility is. You can tell the people who work here actually care about the space. The staff has always been friendly and welcoming when I come in, and that makes a difference. The equipment is solid, there's plenty of room to do your own thing, and the overall atmosphere feels relaxed rather than intimidating. For me, a gym needs to be somewhere I actually enjoy spending time, otherwise I'm probably not going to use it! Sports West has become that place. I really enjoy the vast range of equipment, classes, and amenities Sports West has to offer. I haven't been super stoked on the music. The tracks typically have really high bpm and the lyrics are extremely f*€k'd, encouraging overuse of all the substances. I'm no angel but my ears want to bleed and there have been some dark messages. I've had one unfriendly experience with an after hours female employee working behind the counter, but most everyone else has been stellar. They have a wide selection of weights and machines for body building and a pool and a spa. I really like it here!!! Steven B.582 days agoI was visiting Reno for a work trip and wanted something more substantive than my hotel gym. When I showed up to SWAC I was pleasantly surprised at how much good equipment they fit into a small space. From the corrective exercise tools such as the power plate and foam rollers to the generous selection of free weights and squat racks, this place could hold its own in Reno but I'd put them up against even some larger gyms in Vegas or Sacramento. Finished the workout with some stretching in the sauna and steam room and called it good. To top it off, Linda, the gal at the front desk was extremely cheerful and polite ensuring that any questions I had were answered. The only reason for getting four stars instead of five was because due to the age of some of the gear. Definitely not a deal breaker and a great facility to help people get healthy.Posted on Yelp

A lot of complaints are because you have to reserve pool time, however, with Sports West being one of the ONLY gyms in the area that even have a pool it makes sense that they require reservations due to supply and demand. I've been coming to this gym off and on for years. Sports West has a great staff and Tracy V. who signed me up took her time to explain every detail about membership, including proper cancellation requirements. I would have given them five stars, but 2/4 of the classes i attended were either labeled wrongly in the class schedule or had instructors that need to renew their certifications in the categories they want to teach. One was supposed to be a weight class, it ended up being closer to a cardio and kickboxing class. Tommy J.1506 days agoSuper psyched this place is back to 24 hours. After Covid, they had staffing issues and couldn't stay 24 hours. This is still the best place in town especially if you got kids. The premium membership has a baby sitter "kids club" included in the price. I had 5 kids so it was really nice to be able to drop the kids off at the kids club and then get a two hour workout. Are used to have a Friday night it's a party in a movie for the kids and it was $10 drop off the kids and they would watch a movie have pizza while you went out. Gave parents a nice date night. Hopefully that will be back. They are constantly bringing in new machines, and keeping up with all of the technologies. Also, you could buy some of the stuff that they were retiring. They have lots of trainers, many different programs, yoga, Pilates, swimming even have a boxing room. A dead lift room, basketball court, racquetball court, so much for that price.+9Posted on Yelp

It offers just about any feature that one might be seeking, to include exercise machines of all varieties, free weights, handball/racquetball courts, gym, personal trainers, varied exercise classes, swimming pool, steam room, Jacuzzi, and full spa services. Every effort is expended to give the member the optimum possible experience. Sports West was so accommodating and the entire staff was friendly and informative. The manager was so nice and helpful. Anytime I'm back in Reno, this will be my go to spot for a quick workout. Geeze!!!! This gym has always been wonderful to me. I love the convenience of it...it is literally a 5 min walk from my place in midtown. I love kids club....the smoothie bar...I have never encountered rude staff. Everyone on here is complaining about how they acted during the beginning of the shutdown of Covid. Well I will say my experience! Yes I was charged for April and I was glad to pay it!!! To me I was supporting them!they did not expect Covid just as the rest of us didn't ! And they told us they would give us SWAC $ also to make up for it. Unfurtunately I decided to stop going at that time because I have a young son and kids club had to shut down temporarily. The owner say I was putting in a letter to quit, and she walked up to me saying how sorry she was & asked me if we could put my membership on hold instead untill I wanted to come back. Here it is a YEAR later and they honored that keeping my same locked in price and no initiation fee. Yes sometimes machines are out of order, but there is always available machines for me (every gym I have ever gone to at one point had machines down...no biggie!!! Use another till it's fixed!) all in all I truly do love this gym and if you have smaller children the kidclub/daycare is absolutely wonderful!Posted on Yelp

Don M.2178 days agoI have been a member at Sports West off and on since 1993. I used to work at Harrahs Reno Health Club doing massage, so I can appreciate a large club like SWAC. When I came to Reno to get a BS in Medical Sciences from UNR I remember the building, that now is the nicest gym in town, was a Raley's Supermarket. The owner Dee Dee and her family take good care of the place. They hire excellent teachers like Sara who teach multiple styles of fitness classes, like power yoga. I loved the pool, hot tub, steam & sauna. A bonus is that the place is open 24/7. Everyone from the cleaning crew Carmen to the sales staff manager Eric Van Kirk are always friendly & helpful. The spa massage offer to new members is a nice "touch". World class expert Tai Chi / Qi Gong instructor Reza ( Master Nejad ) keeps me coming to the place, even if things like the showers are closed due to the Governor's Mandate.Posted on Yelp

A variety of free weights, cardio, jungle gym, spinning racquetball and a lot of open space to roam around. People are really nice and not a bunch of meatheads on the floor 🙂 the front desk is attentive and very inviting. There's a saline pool Jacuzzi sauna and in the spa infrared sauna which is amazing. And if you need to work out anytime -24 hours-this is the place to come. Piero B.3700 days agoThis gym is really amazing and has anything you could ever want. It is open 24 hours so if you want to go at 3AM, you can do so. It has a basketball court so if you want to play basketball, you can do so. If you have children, they can accommodate. The equipment has always appeared clean, as well as the gym itself. I personally go later in the night when there's around 4 people in the gym, however when I used to go earlier in the day, there would never be a problem having to wait for a machine or anything like that. Overall, the gym is great. If I had to really be picky, I guess their towels aren't the softest in the world, but it honestly is not a big deal.Posted on Yelp
Kristy B.3822 days agoAnytime I think about changing gyms, I'm reminded of the one reason I will never, ever do that. Unlimited reformer pilates for $90 a month. Other than that simple fact, it's a really nice, clean gym with a lot of machines and a great salt water pool. The staff is generally really friendly, and for those that are a little bit surly they can usually be won over with big smiles and happiness. It's super busy at the normal hours, and the parking lot can be a bit annoying but it's big enough that you can always find a spot. Sidenote: It does crack me up to watch people waiting for a close parking spot so they don't have to walk as far to get to the GYM. The class schedule is decent, and the instructors are usually very good. Everyone coming to the classes is friendly so the classes are a great way to make gym friends and enjoy your experience a little bit more. I had one amazing personal trainer for awhile, but unfortunately he moved on. I haven't found one I like as much since he left; I'm on the lookout. If you're looking for a room with machines, this is probably a bit expensive for you (and there's only one location). But, if you're looking for a gym that has a lot to offer (daycare, classes, etc.), this is definitely a good place to check out.Posted on Yelp

Sarah S.3850 days agoAfter the place I was going to for barre and trx closed, I was in the market for a new place. I scoured reviews and group fitness schedules trying to find the perfect one. I needed classes that interested me every day of the week that didn't start until 5:30, but that also weren't too late in the evening. But I also didn't want the same class every day; I wanted options so I didn't get bored. I wanted a decent price. I looked into several studios - most were too specialized, too far away, or too expensive. I looked into gyms near me - too expensive, no classes, or not enough variety of classes. Then there was Sports West, a shining beacon of light offering everything that I needed. I have only been to a "typical" gym once in my life - a friend brought me to a boot camp class. Other than that, I've only done classes at small studios. Because of this, joining a gym made me pretty apprehensive, but I knew I had to get over it and just go sign up. During the sign up process, you'll go through the packet quickly, which includes swim, class, and special class schedules, personal training prices, spa pamphlet, info on kids care, and racquetball reservations. Be sure to ask about discounts - as a state employee, I received $10/month off. You can also get a quick tour of the whole gym. Just some logistics information: when you arrive at the gym, you tell your membership number to someone working the front desk. You can get a towel and/or locker (lockers require that you hand over your keys). Parking is a nightmare - even though there are a ton of spots, there are so many other popular business right there that might have to circle around a bit to find one. New members get 2 personal training sessions, which is really more of an orientation kind of thing rather than actual personal training. During the first session you go through a heath questionnaire (questions regarding general health, past exercise history, experience with certain exercises, what you hope to gain by going to the gym, etc.) and you do a physical evaluation (a few squats, lunges, push-ups and general movements of arms and legs), and finally you'll be weighed and have your body fat measured. You can come in at any time to have it re-measured to see what kind of progress you're making. During the second session, they will show you some stretches that are good for after a workout, answer any questions you have about equipment or exercises, and show you how to use any equipment you are not familiar with. Never during any of these two sessions was there a pressure to sign up for personal training. I'm mostly there for the classes, so I'll give some information on those too. I can't speak for any of the other classes besides the 5:30 pm weekday classes. Cheyanne's classes (Build & Burn and Blast & Balance) are quick paced and you'll definitely feel the effects for hours (or days!) after. She incorporates various equipment into her classes and no two classes are the same. Sarah's attitude bugs me, it's a little too bossy, but she does give you a good workout and she also incorporates various equipment into your workout. Marty's cardio dance class tends to have an older crowd. It's focused solely on dancing, so if you are looking for a toning workout, grab a few weights to add a little bit extra to your workout. It usually starts out with music popular now that you'd probably hear in a club and then he'll move on to disco. I got the opportunity to do the Space Station with Kyle one night when there was a mix up with an instructor's substitute. Space Station is equipped with TRX straps and he makes up a rotation of different exercises that you do (not all are on the TRX). It was a fantastic workout and even though it is an additional cost on top of your membership fee, I highly recommend doing it. They have a pool, basketball court, spa, racquet ball courts, steam room and many more cool options to meet your fitness needs. David R.3995 days agoSo I'm from out of town and my hotel room was not ready yet. I just drove in from Orange County and I needed to S#!+ Shower brush my teeth and yes, shave. This place was awesome and let me get ready for my meeting. At first they said $20.00 but then when I got here they didn't want to charge me. I'm on my way out the door now and I'm not sure if they are going to charge me but either way this place is awesome. Here is what I can tell you about this place. I saw a pool, handball courts, lots of gym equipment and a very nice restroom/locker room area. Please give this gym a chance, they are 100% aSTAR place if you ask me. First and foremost I have to give credit when credit is due; the staff has improved ten fold in the last several months. Cause i have exactly what i need and want here... Melissa C.4415 days agoThis gym is all around pretty great. It's always clean, clientele is friendly, machines always available. There's a large variety of equipment as well as classes. It's also a very convenient location for me-- close to work and home and reasonably priced for what you get. My main complaint is parking, the gym seems it has grown over the years but the parking is no longer sufficient and a bit of a mess. Erik O.4426 days agoMy wife and I dig this gym. We transferred to Sports West from our previous gym about a year ago for three main reasons: 1. Better location, much closer to our house. 2. LOTS of classes, and at a variety of times, not just super early or after five. My wife is into the classes and enjoys going to Zumba and Hip Hop, etc. We've even gone to yoga together several times (fun and relaxing). More classes than I can even attempt to name. 3. GREAT childcare on site. Stacy and all the ladies at the Kids Club are fantastic, and my four year old son and two year old daughter enjoy coming to Sports West as much as we do. And the gym is great too. Everything I need to work out. I think it's even open 24 hours for those of us who work crazy hours. Clean, with great customer service. In fact, there was an employee wiping down machines today while I did my cardio. I almost always see someone cleaning while I'm there. Daria G.4592 days agoI read all prior + and - reviews about Sports West. To find out for myself, I dropped by on my lunch hr to see the reaction from front desk and others. Like other visitors, I was asked to fill out short questionairre, and my driver's license was requested and photo'd. When I balked (on purpose) and asked why a copy was needed, I was told it was for protection from liability while on tour. That in case of a fall on my part, or perhaps someone being careless with a weight, for example, it was important the mgmt have that info. Also, if some disaster required evac of the bldg, that they would know exactly which members and non-members were on the premises. This made some sense to me, and I grudgingly let them copy it. The young man did say that it would be shredded once I spoke with the person who would provide me a tour-Alyssa. Alyssa was with another person on tour, so I waited 10 min (voluntarily), and someone else ?Stacy or Tracy came over to introduce herself and said she would take me around since Alyssa was still busy. Nice touch. Tour thorough, informative, both spinning area and spa included. My questions answered and I was handed over personally to Alyssa was was just saying goodbye to another drop-in. Spent 15 min with Alyssa who was warm, engaged, interested and attentive. No pressure or change in professional attitude when I told her I wasn't ready to change over until at least fall due to a prior commitment. My info packet was packed with stuff, including a valentine candy and $40 credit toward a spa service at the co-owned Spa West. All in all, very pleasant introduction. Donal M.4616 days agoI joined Sports West because it has a saline swimming pool. It is 25 meters long, which I like. The downside it that there are only 4 lanes. But when I pick the correct times the pool is usually quite. The treadmill are decent. They have a few new treadmills which I prefer. The mirrors are behind you when you are running on the treadmill. So it is hard to watch your form when running. Overall the people are super friendly. The gym is clean and neat. There are always fresh towel. I recommend the place.Posted on Yelp

PROS Not a meat market Never have to wait Saline pool=super awesome Pilates classes/group classes Smoothie bar Open 24 hours Good price CONS Needs some updating, looks dated Locker room is a bit weird, I don't always like walking from the showers through the area ladies are getting ready. Corie C.4781 days agoSports West is unpretentious, non-lecherous, low-key and friendly. I also snagged a great monthly membership deal. And I'm a fan of good deals. Other reasons I fondly recommend Sports West: -They have a great saline, non-chlorinated lap swimming pool with a good masters swimming class. They graciously accommodate lap swimmers throughout their day classes. -A few of the spin class instructors lead great workouts with a palatable selection of music. You'll quickly deduce who the good instructors are. -I've been fond of Elliptical machines for 16+ years and they have plenty of them. -The locker rooms are tidy and well-managed. -I like the sense of community here.Posted on Yelp
Angela L.4934 days agoSports West is a very unpretentious athletic club, with a family-type vibe and an absence of grunting meatheads who slam the weights and sweat all over the equipment without wiping up. In addition to the standard gym equipment such as treadmills, stationary bikes, Cybex machines and free weights, Sports West offers many, many classes: Kettlebells, morning Bootcamp, swimming lessons, spinning, Pilates (both reformer and mat), Zumba, aerobics, and some others that I'm sure have escaped my notice. The staff is friendly and helpful. There are always enough treadmills, so you never have to wait for a machine. It never seems to be crowded, even during what one would think would be peak times, like just after work. The parking lot is ample, convenient, and well-lit. The locker rooms are well-appointed, save for the absence of a scale in the ladies' locker room. I know that the men have a scale, because I asked one of the guys. I'm not sure whether the lack of a scale in the ladies' locker room is supposed to be a nod toward more body acceptance, or an attempt to embarrass those of us who could stand to lose a few pounds by forcing us to weigh in on the scale near the free weights, but either way, it's darned annoying. The ladies' locker room does have private lockers, private showers, a sauna, and a large area with sinks, blow dryers, and other hairstyling tools for the use of members. There is also a large lap pool with access directly from the ladies' locker room. I really feel comfortable at Sports West, and relieved that it's more of a family place instead of a pick-up spot like 24-Hour Fitness. I like to feel at ease, and not like my body is being scrutinized by a bunch of horny twenty-somethings looking to hook up.Posted on Yelp

Including Infrared saunas and Towel service. What I really appreciate is the Great Yoga and Pilates Class's . A large Gym with plenty of room . Molly is a great Teacher with a lot of experience and connection to the class. Looking forward to more Yoga at sports west.Posted on YelpJames W.5208 days agoI joined Sports West shortly after moving to Reno almost a decade ago. Before joining I checked out a couple of the 24hr fitness locations and some of the other local gyms. Sports West offered the most complete, clean, and consistent hours. Sports West is literally only closed 1 day a year... christmas, thats it. Open 24hrs any other day of the year. They have a good free weight section with dbs ranging from 1-115 + 135 + 150, with multipe sets for the smaller poundages (less than 50). For a bodybuilder I would classify the section as adequate, for the average gym goer I would classify it as overkill... perfect for me. I feel one of their strongest points are all of the other amenitites they offer besides a standard weight lifting section. My wife loves swimming (swim team in hs) and the fact they have a huge indoor saline pool was a huge plus for us. They also have an indoor FULL basketball court, 3 racketball courts, 2 floors of cardio equipment, tanning beds, a boxing room (bags, timer), and tons of different aerobic, spinning, or yoga classes. For all of the parents out there they also have a child care section during the day. You do pay for all of these amenities so Sports West is not fitness410... thankfully 🙂 For anyone concerned with televisions they have 10+, pretty much every corner and then a row of 4-5 in front of the cardio equipment. No gym is perfect, but I feel Sports West has provided my family with the best all around gym experience in Reno.Posted on Yelp

I love that it's open 24/7 and that there are classes regularly. My only complaint is that the cardio equipment is not always up and running. There's always at least one machine that's down, which might not seem like a big deal but when you workout at 5PM when everybody else is there, having that one machine work would really be helpful.Posted on Yelp

The members are a great bunch of people. I have found some great friends there! Being a swimmer, I absolutely love the saline pool! Todd I.6003 days agoSports West is one of the premier atheletic clubs in Reno. Membership has a few neat perks including a saline swimming pool, workout classes and great childcare. They offer a variety of aerobic classes including step, spinning and dance aerobics. The downside would definitely be their aerobic equipment that seems to often be out of service, and needs updating. There are only a few that have attached TV moniters, which are nice but usually occupied especially during peak hours. They would be 5 star if they upgraded their equipment.Posted on Yelp
Tracy S.6411 days agoREVIEW NUMBER 200!! Whoop! In honor of my 200th review, I would like to whole-heartedly recommend my gym. Sports West is in a great location (at least for me) and is always full of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. As mentioned below, this is not a meat market--all the people there are really friendly in a PLATONIC way. I often have someone introduce him/herself just to chit-chat. They have a fantastic pool area, really great locker rooms with all of the amenities, and lots of machines. It is overall just a fun place to hang out. But the BEST thing about Sports West is their family-friendly policies. First of all, they have really great and affordable child-care. I pay an extra $10 a month for the child-care, and it is worth every penny. They also have "family time" on the weekends after 2pm when the kids are allowed in the gym itself...so you can work out with your kids, or play with them in the gymnasium, or even take them swimming in the pool. And best of all, they have Friday night Kids Club. Every Friday night from 6pm to 11pm, they will watch your kid while you go have fun. They charge $10 to cover the cost of your kid's dinner. That's right, they will watch your kid for 5 hours and feed them dinner for only $10. For me, that alone is worth the price of membership. My kid LOVES going to the gym! She always has a lot of fun and I get some alone time. That is great motivation to work out!Posted on Yelp
